HELPING DOLORES
By: MEREILLE HANNA
I went on a humanitarian mission to Dolores two years ago for the first time. It was a beautiful experience: wonderful beach, seafood, good people and lots of music. While there we distributed school supplies to a kindergarten in Barangay Malobago and were surprised to see that there was no real kindergarten. 35 toddlers were jammed in a tiny room in the Malobago maternity clinic. So, Global Legacy Programs, the organization I founded, raised $8,500.00 to build a beautiful kindegarten. The community provided land and labor. Although finishing work is not complete, the children are already learning in it. We are trying to raise funds to put in a bathroom and outdoor swings and seasaws, etc.
We also have been sending two shipments of medical supplies each year to the small hospital of Dolores. However, we told Mayor Villacarillo that we would take care of providing all the equipment for a proper hospital if she could get the funds to build one. So, she went to Manilla and spoke with the president who agreed to fund $150.000.00 to build a hospital if we would fully provide for the equipment. We now have blue prints for a 20 beds hospital that will have an operating room, delivery and labor rooms, laboratory, pediatrics, etc...
